Sam, Sam, Sam, Sam!

Did you know that artist Andy Warhol and his Mom had hundreds of cats in their lifetime? That is a lot of cats! Did you also know that all of his cats were named "Sam" except one? What did he name that one cat?
See if you can find the name here while you explore Warhol's life and work. If you figure it out be sure to let us know by leaving a comment!

The above 3rd grade drawing is the beginng of our pattern lesson inspired by Warhol's cat illustrations. Be sure to look for the finished projects the next time you are in the building. Our 3rd grade pattern pets are fabulous!

Three Machines by Wayne Thiebaud

1st Graders Mixing Tints & Shades!

Pop Artist Wayne Thiebaud is the inspiration behind the 1st graders paintings this week. He loves to use tints in his artwork and lots of light values. Do you know how to make a tint using paint? If not - ask a first grader!

Goodbye Ms. Dreher!

Ms. Dreher was our student teacher this fall from Georgia State University. She spent 8 weeks with us and did such a fabulous job! We will miss her and know that she is going to go on to be a great art teacher sometime very soon!  Thank you Ms. Dreher for all your hard work - we miss you already!

Color Schemes

Choosing color schemes are lots of fun! Second graders have been studying warm, cool, and neutral color schemes along with geometric and organic shapes. They really know their stuff!

You can see their fabulous geometric/organic shaped leaves in progress  - can you guess the color scheme these students are using?  Go here for a fun online color scheme generator and make your own!

D-D-D

That's right - 3D!!!!!!!!!!!! Fifth grade students are learning to draw from direct observation. Through the use of diminsional line and shading techniques they will be able to realistically draw these forms. Can you name them all?

When we are done they will look like this:

Kara Walker

Third graders are studying artist Kara Walker in art class right now. They are telling stories with their art using only silhouettes!

Hard at work the student's are carefully cutting out their images!

Free Salvador Dali

Did you know that the High Museum of Art is free to Fulton County residents on the first Saturday of the month? That is this weekend! You can take MARTA down to the museum and see this great show for free!
